Squawks

Parrot-circle-FLAT

No airplane is perfect, not even this one.

Squawk: 11 years have passed since the teflon seals in the prop were new.

Background: Prop shops recommend that the teflon seal on each blade be replaced every 10 years.

Comment: Perform a “reseal" on the prop, and "dress and paint.”

Squawk: Oil temperatures struggle to reach recommended operating range in cold weather.

Background: The oil cooler's NACA-style duct works well in keeping oil temperatures down in summer, but keeps oil temperatures too low in winter.

Comment: Install an oil cooler air temperature control-valve servo.

Squawk: Uninstalled eyebolts in trailing edges of wings prevent the wings from being folded.

Background: Most components of the GlaStar Wing Brace Kit were built into N9103D’s airframe during construction. However, several parts remain to be installed before N9103D can fold its wings.

Comment: Install two clevis strut eyebolts and related hardware on the trailing edge of each wing.

Squawk: The cabin can become drafty in certain situations.

Background: Air entering the cabin through the wing root behind the co-pilot becomes noticeable when flying at higher speeds in cold weather.

Comment: Seal areas open to the wing root with neoprene foam rubber (or equivalent).

Squawk: The aircraft’s ELT broadcasts on only 121.5 MHz.

Background: N9103D is equipped with an Ameri-King AK-450, which transmits on 121.5.

Comment: Retrofit with a dual-band Ameri-King AK-451 that broadcasts on 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz.
